Gray (left) a debut middle-grade novel in which fourth-grader Vilonia must prove that she is responsible enough to get a dog, in order to help her mom get over her grief. Publication is planned for spring 2017; Caryn Wiseman at Andrea Brown Literary Agency negotiated the deal for world rights!
Toni Gallagher, Twist My Charm: The Popularity Spell (middle grade, two book deal to Random House). Represented by Jen Rofé of Andrea Brown Lit. Agency.
 keeper_cvr_final_lr Shannon Messenger landed a six-figure deal at Simon and Schuster for “The Keeper of the Lost Cities.”Shannon is represented by ABLA agent, Laura Rennert.
rootless Chris Howard came to a workshop and met his agent, Laura Rennert and his editor, Mallory Kass from Scholastic.His debut novel was published Fall 2012 entitled Rootless.
swallows Kathryn Fitzmaurice came to Big Sur and was signed by ABLA agent, Jennifer Rofe.Her first novel, The Year the Swallows Came Early was published by HarperCollins and she has two other novels out.
Denise Doyen was signed by Jennifer Rofe and has several picture books published by Random House, including the successful picture book Once Upon a Twice.
harbinger Sara Etienne attended the workshop, found an agent, and has since been published by Putnam.
Workshop participant Veronica Rossi found an agent and got a mid six-figure deal with HarperCollins.The first book in her New York Times-bestselling Under the Never Sky trilogy was named an ALA Best Fiction for Young Adults selection and an Indie Next List Pick.The second book, Through the Ever Night, was a New York Times and USA Today bestseller.The series has been optioned for film
Agent Laurie McLean signed participant Toby Neal, who has since sold more than 500,000 copies (!) of her self-published adult mystery crime series (with a touch of romance) and is currently working on her first YA mystery series.
Lisa Schulman attended a workshop, polished her manuscript, and eventually published League of Strays with Abrams.
jill Jill Diamond author of The Mural Mystery – A Lou Lou Bombay Tale, sold to FSG and available in 2016. Represented by Jen Rofé of Andrea Brown Lit. Agency.
Attendee Elle Cosimano signed with one of the industry’s top literary agents, and her first novel, Nearly Gone, sold in a two- book, six figure pre-empt to Kathy Dawson of Dial/Penguin Books for Young Readers.Read her full testimonial about her fantastic experience at the workshop here.
Tamara Ireland Stone attended the Big Sur Writing Workshop in December 2012.Three months later, her agent, Caryn Wiseman, sold Tamara’s time travel romance, Time Between Us at auction in a two book, six-figure deal to Lisa Yoskowitz of Disney-Hyperion.Since then, Time Between Us has sold in twenty countries, audio rights were sold to Listening Library, and the book was optioned by CBS films.
Kim Culbertson’s YA novel Songs for a Teenage Nomad was recently picked up by Daniel Ehrenhaft, the senior editor at Sourcebooks, to be reissued in hardback under their new young adult imprint FIRE.The imprint also publishes her second YA novel Instructions for a Broken Heart.
Jennifer Laughran from ABLA (and workshop faculty member) sold the middle grade mystery The Wig in the Window by Kristin Kittscher, who attended Big Sur in 2010, to HarperCollins, edited by former Big Sur faculty editor Rosemary Brosnan!
Rebecca Wolf attended a Big Sur Writing Workshop in 2005.It was there she met her future agent, Andrea Brown’s Laura Rennert, who sold Rebecca’s Rockabye: From Wild to Child to editor Brooke Warner at Avalon Books!
Workshop attendee Jeff Stone’s scored a half-million dollar deal with Random House for The Five Ancestors series!
Elizabeth Shreeve, a workshop alumni, has now sold two picture book manuscripts to Front Street/Boyd’s Mills Press, including Oliver at the Window.
Crystal Allen, from the December 2008 workshop, sold a two-book, six-figure deal to HarperCollins with agent, Jennifer Rofé, from Andrea Brown Literary Agency, Inc.
ross Ross Burach, author/illustrator: sold his debut picture book THERE’S A GIRAFFE IN MY SOUP to David Linker at HarperCollins in a two-book, six-figure pre-empt. The first book is forthcoming in Winter 2016, with the second in Winter 2017. I met him at Big Sur December 2013.

This is a double Big Sur success story because Kathy Ellen had both Ariel and Andre Brown agent Lara Perkins for critique at Big Sur March 2013! The book is forthcoming tentatively in 2017.

found Marilyn Hilton came to Big Sur in Dec. 2007 – she sold Found Things to Simon & Schuster, and it was published in 2014.

18050015 Tracy Clark came to Big Sur in Dec. 2008 – she sold Scintillate which was published by Entangled Teen  2014 and the sequel, Deviate, is coming out in 2015.
personal-demons-200 Lisa Desrochers came to Big Sur in March 2009 – she sold Personal Demons to Tor and it came out in 2010, and since then she’s gone on to publish several more books with Tor and HarperCollins.
51mV1bw8g5L Meg Medina came in Dec. 2006 and the book she worked on there, The Girl Who Could Silence the Wind, was published by Candlewick Press in 2012, and her most recent, Yaqui Delgado Wants to Kick Your Ass by Candlewick in 2013.
